Bathroom
Workplace health and safety is an issue of great importance when discussing bathrooms, wet rooms and bathroom suites in a work related environment. The seemingly safe environment is an obstacle course of potential injury and even death. Water boilers and radiators clearly, the high risk ends of the spectrum, posing electrical and fire damage potential. Water and electricity don't mix and when they do ... humans are at great risk. Shower heaters and radiators should be installed by professionals and installed according to instruction and regulation. Shower doors are an easily overlooked danger. Made of glass they have the chance of breaking and lacerating innocent hygienists. Shower enclosures are a space best designed with safety at the forefront of considerations. Include some bathroom furniture to provide adequate safe spots to sit and rest when needed. Wet rooms offer good safety as the entire room is generally sealed for water proofing, however the simplest mistake in flooring can make an otherwise safe, modern bathroom or shower an injury playground. Slippery floors lead to more injury than kite fighting, consider that for a moment. So the use of textured flooring is must, whether concrete or slate or tiles, be sure to provide a non-slip surface option. This is the most basic of steps toward a safe bathroom and should not need mention, but unfortunately does. Also worth mention is the lighting in bathrooms and shower enclosures. With the lights on, things are safer as you can see; but not always. If lighting is too bright, it can trigger distraction from what we are doing and momentarily put us in danger of injury. Be aware of all these factors and more not mentioned here, as you can never be too careful. Enjoy your bathroom with a conscious understanding of safety and workplace health. For if we are to work well, we need to work safe, even in our bathrooms.
